Stupid Gas Prices + Pay for Your Pull!

Okay, so I saw some local gas prices topping four bucks a gallon this weekend. I really won't rant on how stupid that is too much, but it got me thinking... How long does a gallon of gas last when you are wakeboarding? Any ideas?

I don't have my own boat, so I'm always mostly always pitching in for gas. It's the right thing to do, and I'd rather over pay than under pay since the owners have to not only buy gas, but pay for the boat, the insurance, licensing, etc. So my other question is: How much do most of you pitch in for a pull?

We pull Mike Ennen around on the rails here at Bow Lake quite often when we don't have a bunch of guests riding around. He usually brings a 5 gallon tank that he puts in the boat after riding. Take into consideration when he's hitting rails we use the 01 Prostar 190 and he rides for about 45 minutes. We have filled up the boat prior to him riding and his 5 gallons fit just about perfectly to give it a full tank. So after thinking about that there are way to many variables to figure out. Fuel injected/carb? How much weight? I think of loaded as a couple sacks full on top of the stock ballast. What would you say to 5 gallons for about 20-30 minutes of actual riding?

I have always done 5 gallons of gas for 2 sets, which for me is about 30 minutes of riding. It's funny how when I started riding, that was around 5 bucks, and now we are looking at 20 bucks!! I guess that not really funny :(

I always figure that $20 is a good ammount too. Boat owners, any thoughts?

Really depends on the boat. If youre riding behind an Xstar with a 450hp engine, it is going to use more fuel. If you are learning tricks and falling more than riding, the boat will use more fuel. However, I am with Jason 5 gals or $20 is a fair price to the owner. Although, if the prices continue to increase; $20 won't get much fuel.

"it is going to use more fuel. If you are learning tricks and falling more than riding..."
Very good point and a good reminder there. When I plan to push myself hard and end up swimming a lot, better to be all the more generous

It is really more sad.

I'm with you on paying for the pull regardless of what pump prices are.

My question for boat owners (since I don't have one myself) - do you prefer cash, actual fuel brought, or combo of the two?

I'm ALWAYS appreciative of pulls, therefore like to be generous as possible - I do agree, I'd rather over-pay the boat owner than under.

how do you measure 5 gallons? maybe a stick!

nah nah nah, digi gauges on the boat makes it easy. see where its at before i put my gas in, and see where its at after i put my gas in. super easy.

NICE... I bet you get good pulls that way! So, between you and me, which boats are gas hogs?
