Wakefirst

Yeah, yeah - Not trying to rub it in, but I'm down in Costa Rica and just did my first ocean surf set. I took a lesson at Jaco beach - they made it easy to learn some of the basics. Popped up on the big longboard and rode a ton. I was very surprised at how tired I was. Actually I'm still beat, probably why I'm back at the hotel visiting Wakefirst.

What does anyone else think of ocean surfing versus wake surfing? I tend to think that they are very different and really just have the board dynamics in common. I like them both, but I think I need to take a surfing vacation sometime soon! Even though the ride is shorter, there is so much more to love about ocean surfing.

Ah beautiful Costa Rica! I was there a couple of years ago. So are you planning on staying in Jaco or going other places?

Only here for a couple days, hit Manuel Antonio Nat park yesterday and heading home in the am, driving back to San Jose first thing.

Nice Manuel ve Antonio was one of my favorite spots we went to in Costa. Drive safe tomorrow and watch out for those crazy drivers.

I'd rather surf any day. I like the salt water, the sound of the surf, the face full's of sand. Plus, no trips to the gas pump!

Don't get me started!!!! I moved to Maui a couple years ago, then spent 3 months in C.R. after that... real surfing is so much more difficult, reading waves (where to be, to far in, to far out, where the peak is) there is so much unspoken etiquette. So anyway from what I've found wake surfing does not make you a better surfer, but surfing does make you a better wake surfer.

Murto, Jaco's cool go watch some really good surfers at playa hermosa... how long are you there for? I miss that place.

We went to playa Hermosa the other day, amazing surf and surfers! Heading home in a few minutes, it was too short of a trip! Three months would be unbelievable!

Nice work, you need to give me some pointers as I head to Maui next week.

Yo - take a lesson early on in the trip so you have more days to do it after that! My mistake was to take the lesson on the end of the last day.

Nick,

You have got to be kidding me! You are down surfing and to think we were riding the freezing cold wake just a couple of weekends ago! I'm glad to hear you are having a good time! Wish the family and I were out there. Have a blast and we will see which (surfing or wake surfing) is better once the ice melts off!

Dan,

Have fun in Maui... Unbelievable! No wonder you guys were willing to hit the double ups... What did you have to lose? Going to warm tropical paradise. We are all jealous.

I was there a couple of years ago same beach. Not the best brake but real good for starting cause its an all sand bottom. Hermosa is definitely the place to see the good surfing. Regular surfing is by far a lot better I think just cause your so free from everything esle. I do both here in MN surfing the big lake when the storms roll through and riding behind the boat during the summer
